   Been a long time since I have blogged away..lol..The lack of good internet service being the main reason..but I think I am now, fingers crossed, ok..and hope to make time to do more.

Mongo here on my arm, such a beautiful long tail..he is so gentle, I can hand him off to a very young child with no worries, and they love him..

 Jack and Tony here, eating their share of my oatmeal..lol
 Pepper in a quizzing mood..
   Been doing a lot of renovations over the last couple of years, and the 'birds' finally are moved into their own room now, and loving it..we still tweak things, all the time actually, but, they are all quite content, and producing babies, so it all keeps this Mama busy.Its on the west side of my home, and has 4 nice windows in their 16'x8'space..I also use full spectrum lighting on timers, so they not only keep their beautiful feather colors , but it also contributes to their overall health.A few of my special friends, like Pepper,the African Grey, CJ, a Grey as well, Tony, my Rose Crown conure, Jack, a Green Cheek conure,and Mongo, an Alexandrine parakeet, all get to share my shower stall.and they love it, and it is less messy than using a hand sprayer on them..but they love both.Mongo will hang upside down from the top of his cage spreading his tail and wings out and just vibrates with pleasure, as he has his bath time.

  Pepper and CJ enjoying some pure berry juice, their favorite..

 ok that's it for today's post, back soon with more stories, hints tips and pictures..
Back to the story I'd share later;
A few years ago, when Vic was still alive,I had booked to go on a bus tour with a friend.., but just prior to that, a cat that decided to move in here with us..(outside) and have her kittens here, and then was taken by something, not sure what, but we were suddenly left with 5 little kittens, eyes barely open to deal with..well, many $$ on kitten formula later,having to bottle feed them..and also one batch of baby birds were not totally weaned yet..so..I was prepared to cancel the trip, but Vic said "No, you go, I can handle this.".( he had never fed any baby birds before but)...and he was working on a renovation, so off he trotted ...kittens in one box and formula, and bottles and bird pablum and babies in and other box with syringe and hot plate..off he went to work..using his lunch to to feed..lol, anyways, he got home one night, and was feeding birds, when he heard a knock on the screen door, to which my African Grey, Pepper who is very chatty, and she said "Come in" and... this woman did..{all when the birds were still in the living room ,before their 'bird room' was ready.} well, she was the owner of a place down the road and was upset over how the tenants were not doing what she wanted, and so she was lamenting, loudly..and Pepper piped up and told her to "Shut up!".{not a word that we use around here for that reason..cause like small children, they always learn what you really don't want them to!.}.Vic said her mouth dropped, and she tried to edge forward enough to see if I was around the corner and had said that..LOL who said birds are stupid?

Trooper, literally is a ..

Trooper came to our place to be babysat while his caretaker went away for a few days.He had been born at the pet store, and a wonderful woman that works there,took him on to handfeed. Soon they realized that Trooper had some problems, splayed legs; off in two different directions, and club feet besides.I was asked to help out with trying to remedy the situation, and between us, we tried sponge wrapped around his legs, which we then taped together, and supporting him upright in a padded cup..and after trying different things,to no avail, he continued to grow and thrive despite his deformities.While he was here, the store owner called and asked me if I would like to keep him,since he would have special needs for the rest of his life... and so he came to live here amongst the rest of the menagerie. I had him weaned shortly afterwards. I made sure he got his exercise by being placing him down on the floor, where he can move quite quickly, like Charley Chaplin, and he can fly, and has very accurate flight plans..he can leave my lap and fly about 15 feet,across the room, landing on the side of his cage.He and Shiloh,our shi-poo took an almost instant liking to one another, and are bonded friends.

Welcome to Mama Bird's Feathered Friends

My husband and I so enjoy feeding the winter birds, and watching them from our kitchen windows..and I had the bright idea of being able to hear them as they feed out there..well, we tried rigging up a baby monitor to do the trick, but it really didn't work the way we wanted it to, so the next best idea of mine was to buy a finch, their voice is so cheerful..so I was getting a friend of mine to get a baby ready for me..In the meantime,we had gone to farm /bird auction to get some layers and turkeys for our hobby farm.It was a cold and rainy day in may, and I was hoping to make it a short day so I could get back home and have a nice cuppa tea and warm up! but then,I saw a poor shivering cockatiel in a box hardly big enough to turn around in..so we stayed a bit longer to see how much she would go for...well, of course, as soon as we bought her, I opened her cage grabbed her and tucked her under my sweater..and so it began....and like most things around here,it grew so gradually..and before I realized it,it turned into a lot of birds!, and of course, they decided to start making friends,and get even friendlier, and at the present time there are approximately 50+ in here! and the figures go up during breeding season, and then there are some strange little ones that look like bald miniature teradactals in their nursery quarters, while I hand feed, and raise them to be friendly little feathered friends for their new owner...And I figured once our boys were grown I would no longer have any middle of the night feedings to do ever again!, Boy was I wrong!

Life in this house of birds or the Chicken Coop, as my husband says!

First off, I will introduce you to my feathered friends.

Pepper is an African Grey, which was to be my dream bird, and one I hoped to get when I retired..not that I work now..or at least not work outside the home.. but, she happened along much earlier than I ever expected. Almost a year ago,when I read an ad for her,close by to where we live, and at a much lower price than one would expect, I was curious, and so got on the phone, and after speaking to her Mom, and learning a bit more about her and her circumstances, decided to make the trip to see her and find out if she would like me.. and so, the next day my son and I went to meet her,and ended up bringing her home... and my husband and I are enjoying her immensely.She is a One Bird Act! Most talkative during the morning hours, she recants the things she learned while with her first family, as well as a few new phrases she has learned here.At a little after six am, she starts her day by calling out Helloooo to see if anyone else is awake yet, and then once she warms up, she sings to herself that she is a pretty pretty pretty bird, and whistles for effect..haha.she calls our dog, Here Shiloh, come on here girl, and whistles for her as well as barking to get her attention..she then proceeds to call the cat, here Kit, meow meooww....
She has added so many new stories now and keeps everyone entertained,the birds in her room and us as well.
